Can I get Cable Internet without TV?

Getting high-speed cable Internet came after cable television was pretty well established. Cable TV was around for decades before someone had the bright idea to offer Internet through the cable that was already going into people's houses. Telephone companies did the same thing with the phone lines. Both service found that they could provide high speed Internet to their customers without running additional lines into the house.

Of course you can get cable Internet and cable TV in a bundle. You can even get a landline phone added in. Triple play and double play bundles have been the bread and butter of cable companies for quite a few years now.

But many people ask "Can I get cable Internet if I don't have cable TV?" The answer is "Yes! You can get cable Internet if you don't also get cable TV." There is one drawback, often there is an extra charge if you don't get a bundle with Internet and cable television together. Even with the extra charge it will be less expensive that getting both services.

Most cable companies are being forced to focus on services other than cable television like cable high-speed Internet  because a trend called cord cutting is slowly taking over. Cord cutting is when cable television customers decide that they no longer need cable TV because they have Netflix or other over the top (OTT) servcies. Many people would rather spend $12 a month on Netflix than $30 to $100 a month for cable TV. Sure you don't get all the network shows on Netflix, but for some, it is worth the sacrifice.
